So I don't really use goblins much. Don't particularly care for them, despite my main system being the "Goblin Laws of Gaming". But I'll try to make a post about goblins.
Honestly this picture's probably gonna be the highest quality thing in this post. |
"Goblin" is the colloquial name for a variety of smaller magic-created creatures. Rather than things like Elementals - which spring up from nodes of primal energy - goblins emerge from places where the magical experimentation of mortals has warped the fabric of the aether. Similar to how gravity warps spacetime like a heavy ball lying on a sheet, repeated and intense magic usage leaves "mana wells" in the aether that pulls other magic in. To continue this analogy, goblins would be the equivalent of hawking radiation, slowly lessening the concentration of magic in the area. An excellent goal, one might say, but goblins themselves are generally considered pests. With rather alien minds (and "mind" is truly the only word one can use, for they seem to lack any sort of physical brain), they act only to sate their curiosity for a few weeks or so until they ultimately evaporate.
Despite only existing for a month at most, they seem oddly knowledgeable about certain things, including longsword fencing and cheesemaking, seeming to suggest either a shared memory or (some have theorized) a mental connection to something akin to the Akashic records. Most act more or less the same, although occasionally there are rumors of goblins talking or acting unusually hostile. These rumors usually turn out to be gnomes who had fallen in green dye, or an unusually shaped goose.

There are some interesting parallels here between your concept and the figments in Yoon-Suin.
